A study on neck disability index and sleep quality due to smartphone addiction among college students

Abstract

|
Objective: In daily life, smartphones are a necessity, and the problems caused by using them are often not recognized as potential risks. This study was attempted to identify the relationship between the smartphone addiction, neck disability index and sleep quality, and provide basic data to prepare effective preventive measures.
Method: The data collected by the descriptive research study of 133 college students were analyzed using the SPSS WIN 20.0 program.
Results: The smartphone addiction of college students was 2.65, the neck disability index was 1.98 and the quality of sleep was 2.30. Smartphone addiction and neck disability index(r=.44, p<.001), smartphone addiction and sleep quality(r=.54, p<.001), neck disability index and sleep quality(r=.55, p<.001) had a significant positive correlation. The factors affecting sleep quality were smartphone addiction and neck disability index, and the explanatory power was 39.8 %.
Conclusion: In order to prevent neck problems caused by excessive use of smartphones and to improve the quality of sleep, it is necessary to take the right posture when using a smartphone, and reduce the smartphone usage time with the smartphone user system before bedtime.
In addition, it is necessary to establish healthy lifestyle through proper self-management such as neck stretching in daily life.
